Texas Triumph Register
Car of the Month - August 1997

1974 Spitfire
Owner: Dusty Nicholson
August’s Car of the Month is the daily driver of the youngest
Triumph owner in the Texas Triumph Register. Dustin has been a Triumph
enthusiast for six years, attending all regional meets and missing only
one national meet in that time. Since he was nine he has been an assistant
to his stepfather, freind and mentor, Don Carter. Dusty got hands-on experience
helping in the restoration of Don’s national champion TR-6.
Dusty says, “Triumphs have been the source of an unbreakable
bond between us and I can never thank Don enough for all he has done for
me. Thanks, I love you man!”
The British Racing Green finish is a recent “home-done” paint
job undertaken in an attempt to make it more like Dusty’s ideal Spitfire,
the one owned by his friends Barry and Donna Lowe. They will be missed
by Dusty and all of TTR when they move out of state this month.
Dusty’s Spitfire has proved itself a winner in its first
show year. The car took 3rd Place in the 1997 South Central Region Concours
at Georgetown; 1st Place in the Spitfire class at the 1997 Houston All-British
Motor Vehicle Exposition; and a Gold Certificate at the 1997 VTR National
Convention in Fort Worth. In addition, Dusty came in 3rd (just out of trophy
range) in the autocross at the VTR National.
